    My Approach & Philosophy

I’m a late bloomer in recognizing the neurodivergent and ADHD parts of my identity. Empath, Cancer survivor, parent. It’s a meandering journey, much like how my brain just processes things differently.

For many situations, I thought I was too sensitive, too awkward, too behind on where I “should” be. I had workarounds and could squeeze through the demands of daily life, but damn was I exhausted! Identifying neurodivergent burnout with my own therapist was a turning point for me. Naming it helped me to get curious about new accommodations; what I need now to thrive.

I get what it’s like to feel unsafe in who you are; to feel overly responsible for how others see you. I also know it’s possible to shed those expectations and build community with those who both see you and celebrate you.

My approach as a therapist first involves helping you to strengthen resources that already exist within you. We will slow down a bit and get curious together. I believe therapy is a space for both the deep meaningful work and playful exploration. You are the expert of you, and it’s my honor to help pace the work so it feels safe enough. My clients describe me as attuned and collaborative.

I’m also honored to be considered an LGBTQIA+ ally.

To my core, I believe you deserve to feel more empowered. That requires client-centered relational support and I’m here for it! I’m certified in EMDR therapy, a powerful method to treat past trauma. EMDR uses a structured protocol to address the stuck elements of trauma in emotions, beliefs, and sensations. This is one several methods I integrate to tailor an approach that suits your unique needs. I also use an attachment-informed approach known as Ego states or parts work to help reduce internal conflict and address unmet needs. My aim is to help you notice your value and feel more embodied in your relationships.

Outside of therapy, my special interests include adventuring outdoors, plants, hibernating with my senior cat and a good book, and exploring new cities with my partner and our kiddo.

With a heartfelt and steady approach, I am dedicated to helping you move toward a place of greater peace and wholeness. Your well-being is our shared focus.

As a Psych NP in the Lake Norman area, I can’t say enough good things about this practice. I often send my Asheville clients their way. Time and again my clients share how comfortable they felt and how well-matched they were with their therapist.

I was told I would get a meet and great call. I was sent a text with the therapist information/ number they’d be contacting me from. Definitely a little disappointed that I had to wait a month for this meet and greet phone call. When the date came… nothing- no call or text or email. Still haven’t received any response.

Resilient Mind Counseling is an amazing group of people. They are so kind, caring, and really understand what it's like to be ND. They really believe in treating the whole person, not just the symptoms. I cannot recommend them enough.

Jennifer Garrett may be one of the most caring, thoughtful and self-less humans I have ever known. She can hold space for you like no other. In that space, you feel safe, heard and supported. I recommend Jennifer and the many other therapists of Resilient Mind Counseling.

How Do I Discover What My Insurance Will Cover?

To find out what your insurance may cover, contact your insurance and ask if you have out-of-network mental health coverage.

You may also want to mention the type of license that I have to ensure services with my type of credential are covered.

Other things you may want to ask about are:

    • What your deductible is
    • What your co-insurance payment will be
    • How many visits you get per year
    • If you need authorization for your visits
    • Details on how to submit a superbill

Contact me if you would like more guidance on how to figure out what your insurance will cover.

Every client will receive a Good Faith Estimate. The Good Faith Estimate shows the costs of items and services that are reasonably expected for your health care needs for an item or service. The estimate is based on information known at the time the estimate was created. The Good Faith Estimate does not include any unknown or unexpected costs that may arise during treatment. You could be charged more if complications or special circumstances occur. If this happens, federal law allows you to dispute (appeal) the bill.

The Good Faith Estimate is not a contract and therefore does not require you to obtain the items or services provided by Resilient Mind Counseling PLLC. The foundation of a good therapeutic relationship between a client and therapist is the client’s right to autonomy and self-determination. Therefore, you (as the client) have the right to terminate services at any time.

If you are billed for more than the Good Faith Estimate, you have the right to dispute the bill.

You may contact the health care provider or facility listed to let them know the billed charges are higher than the Good Faith Estimate. You can ask them to update the bill to match the Good Faith Estimate, ask to negotiate the bill, or ask if there is financial assistance available.

You may also start a dispute resolution process with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). If you choose to use the dispute resolution process, you must start the dispute process within 120 calendar days (about 4 months) of the date on the original bill.

There is a $25 fee to use the dispute process. If the agency reviewing your dispute agrees with you, you will have to pay the price on the Good Faith Estimate. If the agency disagrees with you and agrees with the health care provider or facility, you will have to pay the higher amount.

To learn more about disputes and get a form to start the process, go to www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 1-800-985-3059.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate or the dispute process, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 1-800-985-3059.

We can provide a monthly superbill that you may submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement.

To cancel a scheduled Counseling session, a minimum of 24 hours in advance of your session is required. If prior and timely notification is not given, you will be charged the full session fee for the missed session.
