My Approach & Philosophy

Like many therapists, I’m equipped with the tools to help others largely because of my own suffering. I was lost, looking for guidance, and tried many forms of therapy, finding most to be superficial. I felt like I was offered band-aids for the bleeding when I wanted to cauterize the wound. I didn’t want coping skills for my depression, I wanted to know why I was depressed so that I could DO something about it.

I wanted real change. I finally got what I asked for, and my life turned upside-down when I discovered Jungian therapy.

Where most therapies aim to reduce symptoms so you can get back to normal functioning, Jungian therapy is totally different. It assumes that “normal functioning” is the problem, symptoms the antidote. Symptoms are purposeful, arising when your life has become too restrictive, too one-sided, too far removed from your authentic nature and true potential. Symptoms then provide a compass by which to reconnect you to the roots of your own soul.

So, if you’re hoping to get rid of your symptoms but hold onto your normal, this kind of therapy probably isn’t for you. It’s a long-term psycho-spiritual journey that requires earnest soul-searching and a willingness to open oneself to the guiding wisdom of the deep psyche.

If you can find the courage to allow that wisdom to direct real changes in your life, you will be transformed. You will emerge from the process with a stronger and more resilient sense of self, a deeper connection to your authentic nature, and a renewed sense of wonder and purpose in life. It is my sincerest joy to guide you on that journey.

As a Psych NP in the Lake Norman area, I can’t say enough good things about this practice. I often send my Asheville clients their way. Time and again my clients share how comfortable they felt and how well-matched they were with their therapist.

I was told I would get a meet and great call. I was sent a text with the therapist information/ number they’d be contacting me from. Definitely a little disappointed that I had to wait a month for this meet and greet phone call. When the date came… nothing- no call or text or email. Still haven’t received any response.

Resilient Mind Counseling is an amazing group of people. They are so kind, caring, and really understand what it's like to be ND. They really believe in treating the whole person, not just the symptoms. I cannot recommend them enough.

Jennifer Garrett may be one of the most caring, thoughtful and self-less humans I have ever known. She can hold space for you like no other. In that space, you feel safe, heard and supported. I recommend Jennifer and the many other therapists of Resilient Mind Counseling.

How Do I Discover What My Insurance Will Cover?

To find out what your insurance may cover, contact your insurance and ask if you have out-of-network mental health coverage.

You may also want to mention the type of license that I have to ensure services with my type of credential are covered.

Other things you may want to ask about are:

  • What your deductible is
  • What your co-insurance payment will be
  • How many visits you get per year
  • If you need authorization for your visits
  • Details on how to submit a superbill

Contact me if you would like more guidance on how to figure out what your insurance will cover.

Every client will receive a Good Faith Estimate. The Good Faith Estimate shows the costs of items and services that are reasonably expected for your health care needs for an item or service. The estimate is based on information known at the time the estimate was created. The Good Faith Estimate does not include any unknown or unexpected costs that may arise during treatment. You could be charged more if complications or special circumstances occur. If this happens, federal law allows you to dispute (appeal) the bill.

The Good Faith Estimate is not a contract and therefore does not require you to obtain the items or services provided by Resilient Mind Counseling PLLC. The foundation of a good therapeutic relationship between a client and therapist is the client’s right to autonomy and self-determination. Therefore, you (as the client) have the right to terminate services at any time.

If you are billed for more than the Good Faith Estimate, you have the right to dispute the bill.

You may contact the health care provider or facility listed to let them know the billed charges are higher than the Good Faith Estimate. You can ask them to update the bill to match the Good Faith Estimate, ask to negotiate the bill, or ask if there is financial assistance available.

You may also start a dispute resolution process with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). If you choose to use the dispute resolution process, you must start the dispute process within 120 calendar days (about 4 months) of the date on the original bill.

There is a $25 fee to use the dispute process. If the agency reviewing your dispute agrees with you, you will have to pay the price on the Good Faith Estimate. If the agency disagrees with you and agrees with the health care provider or facility, you will have to pay the higher amount.

To learn more about disputes and get a form to start the process, go to www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 1-800-985-3059.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate or the dispute process, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 1-800-985-3059.

We can provide a monthly superbill that you may submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement.

To cancel a scheduled Counseling session, a minimum of 24 hours in advance of your session is required. If prior and timely notification is not given, you will be charged the full session fee for the missed session.
